The story behind HORNUM®
It all started at the State Research Station in the Jutland town of Hornum in the early 1960s.
The dream at the time was to create a super fertiliser that was easy to handle and could be used for most flowers and plants.
The aim was to make it more profitable for Danish greenhouse horticulture - an industry that expanded dramatically in the 1960-70s. After many diligent trials and studies, they managed to isolate, extract and then compound the exact amount of NPK micro and microtomes that benefited root, leaf and bud development in the plants and crops that were fashionable in the industry at the time.
Research and a process that today forms the basis for developing the many solid and liquid speciality fertilisers in the Hornum range.
Over the following decades, Hornum Fertiliser was used exclusively in professional horticultural production. The original Hornum Fertiliser was then slowly but surely discovered by gardeners, after which a major production facility was established to meet the high demand for this “super fertiliser” in Denmark and abroad.
The original HORNUM® Fertiliser is used today by both the professional and private sectors and is one of the best-selling fertiliser brands in Scandinavia.
Own production
HORNUM® develops all fertiliser products themself. There are always many parts of the process that need to be tested before the final product even reaches the shop shelves. The correct fertiliser composition must be refined and tested internally and at independent external test stations before the final product can be declared 100% suitable for the intended growth and function.
Cultivation instructions, trials and testing of the product are part of the development and finalisation of the packaging and sales material to accompany and promote the product.
HORNUM® products are therefore unique and very competitive.

HORNUM® solid fertilisers
HORNUM fertilisers are some of the best on the market. HORNUM fertilisers are part of the wide HORNUM fertiliser range, which is sold both as regular and organic fertilisers in attractive and weather-resistant packaging. New this season is an organic whole-garden fertiliser with high-quality organic nutrition for all garden plants. So, you can fertilise with a clear conscience so that both plants and the environment thrive.
Fertiliser buckets are easy to handle, stackable and practical to store with their square shape. They are treated with a special coating that makes them wind- and weather-resistant. Our fertilisers are also available in larger bags of up to 15 kg - perfect for the large garden - in organic and non-organic versions.
HORNUM® liquid speciality fertilisers
For many years, HORNUM® has been behind the development of speciality fertilisers for both the garden centre and the end-user.
Common to all HORNUM® fertilisers is that they are all developed and composed specifically for the individual plant, fruit, etc. The composition of the NPK and the micro-substances in the particular fertiliser determines whether the plant is supplied with exactly the substances it needs for growth, colour, flower, and fruit development.
Mix your own content in our sales displays
There is ample opportunity to order the number of shelf parcels in the variants you want, as well as an empty display for the products. We pre-pack the display and deliver it to your door, ready to put it into place.
There can be five shelf parcels on a ¼-pallet module. Our sales consultants can also guide and recommend the content of these displays with the corresponding top signs.
